John's surprise birthday Party - 2001

I came across these pictures and thought it would be fun to post them now. The first year that John and I were married I threw a surprise birthday party for him. I called a few of his old mission companions, his family, and my family and we had the party at Peter Piper Pizza in Orem. It was a good time and I enjoyed coming across these pictures. Maybe I should perm my hair again! :)

John's Birthday Cake!

He was surprised alright! I told him that he needed to dress up, and get ready. I think he thought we were going to the temple or a nice restaurant...Hello Peter Piper Pizza! Hee hee!

Cute Valorey - She looks so little in this picture!

John's parents, and family came all the way from Salt Lake to Orem.

I'm struggling today...

I'm having a bad day. I need some help and direction. I had a bad day yesterday and I’m feeling like I have the weight of the world on my shoulders. I’m working hard, keeping busy, trying to improve…but each day is such a challenge, and I need some help and guidance! I read an email from my old boss, and it motivated me to read the Proclamation.

The Family: A Proclamation to the World:

The First Presidency and Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We, the First Presidency and the Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, solemnly proclaim that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator's plan for the eternal destiny of His children.
All human beings—male and female—are created in the image of God. Each is a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents, and, as such, each has a divine nature and destiny. Gender is an essential characteristic of individual premortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose. In the premortal realm, spirit sons and daughters knew and worshiped God as their Eternal Father and accepted His plan by which His children could obtain a physical body and gain earthly experience to progress toward perfection and ultimately realize his or her divine destiny as an heir of eternal life.
The divine plan of happiness enables family relationships to be perpetuated beyond the grave. Sacred ordinances and covenants available in holy temples make it possible for individuals to return to the presence of God and for families to be united eternally.
The first commandment that God gave to Adam and Eve pertained to their potential for parenthood as husband and wife. We declare that God's commandment for His children to multiply and replenish the earth remains in force. We further declare that God has commanded that the sacred powers of procreation are to be employed only between man and woman, lawfully wedded as husband and wife.
We declare the means by which mortal life is created to be divinely appointed. We affirm the sanctity of life and of its importance in God's eternal plan.Husband and wife have a solemn responsibility to love and care for each other and for their children. "Children are an heritage of the Lord" (Psalms 127:3). Parents have a sacred duty to rear their children in love and righteousness, to provide for their physical and spiritual needs, to teach them to love and serve one another, to observe the commandments of God and to be law-abiding citizens wherever they live. Husbands and wives—mothers and fathers—will be held accountable before God for the discharge of these obligations.
The family is ordained of God. Marriage between man and woman is essential to His eternal plan. Children are entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony, and to be reared by a father and a mother who honor marital vows with complete fidelity. Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities. By divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families.
Mothers are primarily responsible for the nurture of their children. In these sacred responsibilities, fathers and mothers are obligated to help one another as equal partners. Disability, death, or other circumstances may necessitate individual adaptation. Extended families should lend support when needed. We warn that individuals who violate covenants of chastity, who abuse spouse or offspring, or who fail to fulfill family responsibilities will one day stand accountable before God.
Further, we warn that the disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets. We call upon responsible citizens and officers of government everywhere to promote those measures designed to maintain and strengthen the family as the fundamental unit of society. This proclamation was read by President Gordon B. Hinckley as part of his message at the General Relief Society Meeting held September 23, 1995, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Happy Valentines Day!

John and Jaxon were so sweet and surprised me with a dozen Roses Saturday night. We had a wonderful weekend together. Neal & Amy came over for Dinner tonight, and John made a delicious Jagerschnitzel with Bacon Mushroom Gravy dinner.
I'm now craving Sugar Cookies... I've gotta stay away, but here's one of my favorite recipes!

Jaxon's 100th day of School

Jaxon's teacher sent home a notice asking parents to help their children compile a collection of objects to celebrate their 100th day of school. Guess what Jaxon wanted to collect? CANDY!

Jaxon's Fund Raiser Success

Jaxon participated in a fund raiser for his elementary school this last fall. He was one of the top sellers and was awarded a trip to IHOP in a limo (with the principle. :D). He had a lot of fun, and now pledges to be a ROCK STAR so he can have his own limousine. I explained to him that Doctors also have their own limousines, and so he's thinking about being that too. LOL.

The Limo...

Jaxon was so excited!
"Kids do not open the soda!"
Ready to go to IHOP!

If you've seen the movie Billy Madison...you can better understand Jaxon's principle.
I love, love, love his school. He has the best teacher in the world! Last night Jaxon told me that his first grade class won the pizza party again from Papa John's. They have a flier that they send home once a month for family pizza night with coupons. The class that sends the most people to get pizza by giving Papa Johns their teachers name will win a pizza party. So, this is the third time this year that Jaxon's class has won. It was so funny...Jaxon said. "The first time I was like OH YEAH, SWEET! The second time, I was like...OKAY, and this third time...my whole class is like...BLAH".

Jaxon's Treasure Hunt

We had a "left over" friend gift that never got delivered so for family home evening John hid the gift and sent Jaxon on a Treasure Hunt to find it. Jaxon has been really into being and "inspector" and carried his inspector glasses and goggles in order to find it. It was hilarious. The funniest part about it was that I couldn't find the clues...but Jaxon did.

Lava Hot Springs

A few weeks ago I felt like I needed to get away. Sara took Jaxon for a week... so John and I headed up to Lava Hot Springs. It was a quick trip, but we had a lot of fun. It's been a long time since we have been stuck in a car together for two hours, so it was great to talk and catch up on our friendship.
I've never been there before. We learned a little about the small town, and where we would stay the next time around.

We stayed at the Riverside Inn. It was interesting...
The Inn has mineral baths that are located in the basement. That was fun, and interesting as well. It looked more like an old foundation filled with water (which is what it was), but he a had a good laugh about it!

This is one of the rooms. They are all decorated just as it was in 1914 when the Inn was Built.
There is a small waiting room to relax in, but it was mostly creepy. I have to admit that I felt a little like Anne of Green Gables, and more like a horror movie!
At least the animal heads weren't in the bedroom.

Jaxons Primary Talk

Jaxon was asked to talk in Primary. He did such a great job. Since I can't take pictures in the Chapel, I thought I would post his talk. Here's his talk:
Each of us is children of a Heavenly Father who loves us. God is the father of our spirits. Before we were born, we lived with Heavenly Father. He created our spirits and sent us to earth to receive a body. This was part of his plan of happiness.Heavenly Father trusted our earthly parents with the sacred job of providing each of us with a body so that our spirits could come to earth. Our earthly parents also have the responsibility to love, protect and teach their children. The primary song "I am a child of God" helps us understand our relationship with our Heavenly Father:"I am a child of God" - Every single human being is a spirit child of our Heavenly Father."And he has sent me here" - We were sent to earth as part of the plan of happiness."Has given me an earthly home with parents kind and dear" - We were sent to earth as part of the plan of happiness. Eternal families are an important part of this plan."Lead me, guide me, walk beside me, help me find the way" - To return to live with Heavenly Father, we must use our free agency to choose the right. When we obey the commandments, the Holy Ghost can be beside us to help us find the way back to our heavenly home."Teach me all that I must do to live with him someday" - While we are here on earth, it is our job to learn and grow. We can learn by reading the scriptures, attending primary and listening to our parents and teacher. It makes me very happy to know that I am a child of God. I know that Heavenly Father is the father of my spirit and that he loves me. I am grateful that I was sent to live with earthly parents who can help me learn about the plan of happiness. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen

Merry Christmas 2009

I didn't get a chance to mail out my Christmas Cards until after Christmas. If you didn't get one...it's because I didn't get one from you. No, Seriously, I don't keep addresses, so If I get one...I send one. That's just how I roll. I know I need to be more organized, but for now it's just how I work.
I am so thankful for the Savior and am truly blessed to have another year to remember and celebrate the birth of our Savior.
Merry Christmas!

Angie's Soup Kitchen

I've been eating a lot of soup lately, because, um, yeah, I love it. I've even made a lot of it myself. I decided that I needed to post some of my favorite recipes. I should preclude that by saying...I am not a very good cook. Bake - YES, Cook - NO. But with the economy being so horrible, and the fact that I have drastically changed the way I look and eat food has forced me to re-think some of my old habbits. So it's a rather large accomplishment for me to start cooking, and I'm loving it. Here are a few recipes that I've found. I usually tweak them a little bit to my own taste anyway, so here goes:

Olive Garden Zuppa Toscana
1 lb Spicy Italian Sausage, crumbled
1/2 lb smoked bacon, chopped
1 qt. water
2 - 14.5 oz cans chicken broth
2 large russet potatoes, thin sliced
1 large garlic clove crushed
1 medium onion chopped
2 cups kale, chopped
1 cup heavy whipping cream
Salt & pepper to taste
Grated Parmesan

In skillet over medium heat, brown sausage, breaking into small pieces as you fry it. Drain and set aside. In skillet over med/high heat, brown bacon. Drain and set aside. Place water, broth, potatoes, garlic and onion in pot. simmer over medium heat until potatoes are tender. Add sausage and bacon, simmer for 10 minutes. Add kale and cream to pot, season with salt & pepper. Add Parmesan cheese. ENJOY!

Olive Garden Pasta E Fagioli
3 tsp. Oil
2lb. Ground beef
12 oz. Onion Chopped
14 oz. Carrots Slivered
14 oz. Celery diced
48 oz. Tomatoes canned, diced
2 C. cooked Red Kidney beans (I really hate kidney beans so I sub for black or pinto)
2 C cooked White kidney beans
88 oz. Beef stock
3 tsp. Oregano
2 1/2 tsp. Pepper
5 tsp. Parsley; (fresh chopped)
1 1/2 tsp. Tabasco sauce (I Omit this ingredient)
48 oz. Spaghetti sauce
8 oz. dry pasta Shell macaroni; or other pasta

Saute beef in oil in large 10-qt. pot until beef starts to brown. Add onions, carrots, celery and tomatoes and simmer for about 10 minutes. Drain and rinse beans and add to the pot. Also add beef stock, oregano, pepper, Tabasco, spaghetti sauce, and noodles. Add chopped parsley. Simmer until celery and carrots are tender, about 45 minutes. Makes 9 qts. of soup! **Just cut the recipe in 1/2 for smaller family needs!

Cream Of Broccoli Soup
2 tablespoons margarine
1 onion, chopped
1 stalk celery, chopped
3 cups chicken broth
8 cups broccoli florets
3 tablespoons margarine
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups milk
ground black pepper to taste

Melt 2 tablespoons butter in medium sized stock pot, and saute onion and celery until tender.
Add broccoli and broth, cover and simmer for 10 minutes. Puree soup and return to heat.
In small saucepan, over medium-heat melt 3 tablespoons butter, stir in flour and add milk. Stir until thick and bubbly, and add to soup. Season with pepper and serve.

Bacon and Potato Soup
6 thick slices bacon
1 1/2 teaspoons olive oil
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped carrots
1 stalk celery, chopped
4 cups low fat, low sodium chicken broth
4 cups cubed potatoes
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

Cook bacon until crisp in 3-quart saucepan, remove and drain well on paper towels. Discard bacon grease and wipe pan thoroughly with paper towel.
Meanwhile, prepare vegetables. Add olive oil to saucepan and add onion, carrot, and celery as they are cut up. Saute until onion is soft but not brown, about 3-4 minutes.
Stir in chicken broth, potatoes, and pepper; bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer, covered, until potatoes are tender, about 10-15 minutes.
Stir in cheese, heating just until melted--do not boil. Chop bacon and add to soup. Adjust seasoning to taste by adding salt, if desired. Serve at once.

Thanksgiving 2009

We had three celebrations in one day. Thanksgiving fell on John's birthday this year so we had a small party for him. We also spent Thanksgiving with my family and John's family. We had a wonderful day. Jaxon and I woke up early for the Thanksgiving Brunch at Little America. My family got together for brunch, and then me, John & Jaxon went over to Grandma White's (John's Mom) for her famous Thanksgiving Feast.
Me & Jaxon saving a place for everyone in line.
I got to see and hold Kimmie's little Maximus!
Little America is the one place Jaxon can get and eat, or not eat, whatever he wants.
Aunt Sara gave Max some chocolate cake!
Me & Jaxon
Jaxon wanted to share all of his food with me, but I wasn't eating. It was actually so nice to go to a buffet and not want to eat anything! Well, almost anything. Kim got cheesecake, and that was a tough one!
Jaxon loved the ice cream.
And he loved more ice cream...

Parent Teacher Conference

I can't say enough about how much I love Jaxon's First Grade Teacher. She is amazing. I love picking Jaxon up from school and hearing all about what he has learned for the day. She really gets involved, challenges the kids, and invites the kids to see amazing field trips, and class activities. I was excited to see her (Mrs. Soelberg) to see how Jaxon has been in class, and how he is doing. He was right on track. He's a little behind in his Storybooks, but that's great considering what kind of summer our family has had. Being an only child has been a little challenge for Jaxon because he's so talkative. He goes to School and it's a social event. He is a very fun and unique kid, and I'm so proud to be his mom!

Halloween Pumpkin Carving

We had all the White Cousins get together to carve Pumpkins on Halloween. It was so much fun. I was very appreciative to be with John's family. Johns sister Amanda has always been so gracious to invite the family over to her house. I am especially thankful for her kindness to me during these last few difficult months.

I helped Jaxon carve this one. He was so excited. And, well, not to brag or anything, but I'm really, really good at carving pumpkins! Lol.

Val came with us. I think she has a crush on Jaxon's cousin Spencer. I caught her looking at him during this picture.

The three pumkineers.

The Finale...

I love this look on Jaxon's face.

Halloween

We were lucky to have Valorey with us this year for Halloween. Jaxon and Val get a long so great, and have so much fun playing. It's nice for me too because I can sit back and relax while they play. Friday the 30th John brought Jaxon to my work at the County Building and he was able to trick or treat at all the offices here. He was really excited to be Darth Vader! Valorey came early Saturday morning just in time for us to leave and go over to Amanda's house (John's younger sister). She had made a delicious breakfast, we watched the nightmare before Christmas, and carved pumpkins. It was so fun.

What is Changing my life... The PeaceGiver

It's no secret that I've had a very difficult summer...in fact it's been a very difficult couple of years. I've been stuck in a place I never thought I would be in. It's as simple as that. I've spent a lot of time on my knees, with my bishop, with good friends, late nights watching KBYU devotionals, reading scriptures (and in no way do I want to discredit these things!), but I always seemed to feel stuck in the way that I felt and thought. It was sheer torture. I became tangled in a blackness that I didn't know where I started, or where it ended.
Without divulging too much personal information... I was in my own personal hell. Well, after many months of many miracles I am finally climbing my way out of the blackness that seemed so much a part of me for so long. The book The Peace Giver had so much to do with me coming out of everything black I had become. It is an AMAZING book.
This book has helped me recognize the things I can control and change to make my life, and my marriage the eternal focused entity that it should be. I feel so strongly that this book has really saved my marriage.
Yes, that's right... Saved (SAVING)my marriage. John and I are working things out and re-building our relationship brick by brick in order to become the eternal couple and family that we had set out to become eight years ago. Words can't express how bad things really had gotten between us, and for all respective purposes... I don't ever want to remember or go back. I gave John a copy of this book as well, and recommend it to everyone who is or will be married. It's changed my life!

Saturday, October 24, 2009

Whaa Hoo!

So, since I got married and had Jaxon it's been no surprise that I've gained some weight. Well, I'm proud to say that after 7 years I'm finally coming back into my own skin!

I've lost 50lbs, and I am hoping to start running again soon (if my leg will hold out).

It's completely humiliating to admit that I have gained enough weight to admit just how much I have lost, but I am so proud of myself at the same time. Weight has been a life long struggle, and it really has affected my self esteem so severely. Unless you've struggled with it...you will never know or be able to understand the pain, humiliation, and hardship it can be.

I have dreaded pictures for several months, but when I get a chance I'm going to post some on here because I need to see them for me!
